THE HISTORY OF LES VOILES DE SAINT-TROPEZ

The history of Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez traces back to September 29, 1981, with a humble yet significant challenge. It all started when the sailboat Pride issued a challenge to the 12-meter Ikra, embarking on a course from the village of Saint-Tropez to Pampelonne beach, passing through the Nioulargo. This inaugural event paved the way for the following year, when the 12-meter Ikra sought its revenge, joined by other participating boats in this burgeoning competition. Since then, every year, the most remarkable sailing vessels in the world gather in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez to engage in a thrilling contest of skill and camaraderie. Week 1 features traditional boats, while week 2 showcases modern maxi yachts, fostering an ambiance of both competition and conviviality.

LES VOILES DE SAINT-TROPEZ SCHEDULE

THE 2023 EDITION OF LES VOILES DE SAINT-TROPEZ: NEW FORMULA AND NEW DATES

This year, Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez returns with an exceptional edition, from September 29 to October 8, 2023, to celebrate its 25th anniversary. An invigorating new formula awaits over 250 of the world's most magnificent Maxis, Modern and Classic yachts.

A major new feature of this year's event is the inauguration of the regattas by the superyacht fleet on the first Sunday, October 1. This configuration will enable the public, particularly on the opening weekend, to watch the Maxis train and witness spectacular regattas between the most incredible racing monohulls, measuring over 18.28 meters and led by renowned international crews. The regattas will starts and end in front of the village of Saint-Tropez. The majestic sea giants will partake in a customized schedule during the event. On Sunday, they will sail solo in the race, followed by sailing in tandem with the Modern yacht fleet on Monday. From Tuesday to Friday, the entire fleet, including the classic yachts, will grace the seas together. This remarkable gathering of exquisite naval masterpieces, spanning over a century of history, has been a highly anticipated request for multiple editions.

Starting on Sunday, October 1, the Voiliers de Tradition will make their way to Saint-Tropez to participate in the renowned "Coupe d'Automne du Yacht Club de France." On Monday, October 2, the Modern fleet will commence their series of races, featuring a flexible program that adapts to varying weather conditions. This is made possible by an "agile" race committee system utilizing autonomous geo-positionable electric buoys, transmitting information to competitors electronically. The pinnacle of the spectacle arrives on Tuesday with the arrival of the Classic yachts, bringing all the fleets together on the same stretch of water.

The Challenge Day for Modern and Classic yachts is set for Thursday, October 5, encompassing a combination of activities both on the water and ashore. This promises a captivating and exhilarating experience for participants and spectators alike.
